چکیده

Introduction Oxygen therapy is generally provided via nasal cannula, non-rebreathing masks and masks with reservoir bags. These devices have various limitations. Despite showing clear benefits in certain conditions, non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) limits mobilization, restricts communication and oral nutrition and is poorly tolerated by some patients due to discomfort. High-flow nasal cannula oxygen (HFNC) delivers a high flow of heated and humidified oxygen through nasal prongs. It generate positive airway pressure, reduces respiratory dead space, airway resistance, and less frequent interruption of therapy.

Early Nasal Intermittent Positive Pressure Ventilation (NIPPV) versus Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (NCPAP) for Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) in Infants of 28-36 weeks gestational age: a Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Early nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) has emerged as a primary modality of respiratory support for preterm infants withrespiratory distress syndrome (RDS). However, 30%-40% of these newborns need subsequent mechanical ventilation. Nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) is a promising alternative to NCPAP, especially in po...

Comparison of Nasal Non-invasive Ventilation Methods in Preterm Neonates with Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Background: Humidified heated high flow nasal cannula (HHHFNC), nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP), and nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) are three nasal non-invasive ventilation methods. The purpose of this study was to compare these three methods in decreasing intubation and mechanical ventilation rate in preterm neonates with respiratory distress syndrom...

Effectiveness of Nasal Intermittent Positive Pressure Ventilation versus Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure in Preterm Infants after Less Invasive Surfactant Administration

Background Non-invasive ventilation is increased used in preterm infants. We aimed to compare the effectiveness of nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (nIPPV) versus nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) in preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) after less invasive surfactant administration (LISA). Materials and Methods In this clinical trial, eighty ...

A Skeptical Perspective on High-Flow Nasal Cannula in the Treatment of Acute Hypoxemic Respiratory Failure.

The delivery of oxygen, whether as treatment for hypoxemia or supportive adjunct in shock or surgery, is a mainstay of modern medical therapy, yet conventional oxygen therapy, delivered either by nasal cannula or face mask, remains limited by the high oxygen delivery demand of the acute and critically ill patient. By employing a tight fitting mask or mask-like interface, noninvasive ventilation...

High-flow nasal cannula oxygen versus non-invasive ventilation in patients with acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure undergoing flexible bronchoscopy - a prospective randomised trial

INTRODUCTION Critically ill patients with respiratory failure undergoing bronchoscopy have an increased risk of hypoxaemia-related complications. Previous studies have shown that in awake, hypoxaemic patients non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is helpful in preventing gas exchange deterioration during bronchoscopy. An alternative and increasingly used means of oxygen delivery is its application via...
